The Borough of Queenscliffe is a municipality (LGA) in Victoria. It is situated on the south coast, south-east of Geelong on the Bellarine Peninsula south of Swan Bay and next to the Port Phillip Heads, the entrance to Port Phillip Bay from Bass Strait.
The Borough has an area of 8.6 square kilometres (3.3 mi²), and had a population of 3,068 at the 2006 census.
History
The Borough of Queenscliffe was established in May 1863.Queenscliffe is the last Borough remaining in Victoria and Australia, and was the only LGA to escape change in the mass Victorian municipal restructuring which took place in 1994. Had the same restructuring principles which applied elsewhere in the state also been applied to Queenscliffe, the Borough would have been absorbed into the new City of Greater Geelong.
Representation
The Borough, which is not subdivided into wards, is governed by a council consisting of seven councillors, including the mayor. The council is elected for four year terms. The mayor is elected annually from amongst the councillors.Towns and localities
