Opportunity Knocks

Every morning when I get up and check my email, my inbox is full of "opportunities". But the challenge is distinguishing between the good and the bad.

Every morning when I get up and check my email, my inbox is full of "opportunities". I can buy penny stocks that will make me rich -- I can buy medications for body parts, that as a woman, I don't even possess -- I can make a fortune by helping someone from Nigeria transfer a billion dollars out of their country. I'm sure your email box is jammed full of those same "opportunities".

But mixed in with the junk are numerous other pitches for various online opportunities that are much more valid than the above. So how does an online marketer differentiate between the good and the bad when it isn't so obvious? Unless your crystal ball is better than most, I can just about guarantee that you will get burned (probably more than once) in an opportunity that turned out to fold, or one that you just were unable to succeed at, for whatever reason. So now you are annoyed, feel like you have been scammed, and decide that all internet work at home, business opportunities are nothing to be involved in and that anyone who "falls" for them is dumb. Sound familiar? Do you ever hear that from friends when you explain your goal is to make a good living online? In an article on USA Today, they were discussing the failure rates of brick and mortar restaurants.

"In a study in Columbus, Ohio, Professor H.G. Parsa of Ohio State University, tracked new restaurants from 1996-1999. In the first year, 26% closed. Another 19% closed the second year, and 14% the third. Collectively, 59% of new restaurants closed those three years. By the way, the "failure" rate wasn't very different between franchised restaurants - 57% - and independent restaurants - 61%" If you had opened a restaurant and it failed, would you feel like you had been scammed or that all restaurants were run by people out to take your hard earned money away from you? Of course not! Do not lose sight of your goal. As in any business, there will be ups and downs, good people and bad people. Part of doing business is learning what works and what doesn't work FOR YOU and surrounding yourself with winners. Doing business on the internet is no different. Listen to your gut... if something doesn't feel right, don't do it. If you are promised overnight riches, realize that in a best case scenario it will take much longer than that. So answer the door when opportunity knocks, and take the leap. Learn everything you can, and never quit learning.
